How it works: During pregnancy, cell-free fetal DNA is released by the placenta and can be found in mom’s bloodstream. Using a small sample of mom’s blood, SneakPeek tests for the presence of male DNA (Y-chromosomes). Y-chromosomes would only be present if mom is pregnant with a boy. If no Y-chromosomes are found, mom is carrying a girl. This method is known as noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) and is safe for both mom and baby. See the peer-reviewed published study that indicates this test is 99.6% accurate as early as 8 weeks into pregnancy in the Journal of Pregnancy and Child Health. (J Preg Child Health 4:358).
When Can I take the Test? To take SneakPeek, you must be at least 8 weeks into pregnancy, which can be calculated using either the first day of your last menstrual period, or baby’s estimated due date. Use our Test-ready calculator to see if you’re eligible!
How Accurate is the test? According to controlled laboratory testing, the SneakPeek Early Gender Test predicts a baby’s gender with over 99% accuracy (99.6% to be exact). If you want a little more background on the science behind that percentage, here it is: In controlled laboratory tests, SneakPeek Test accurately detected shared male fetal DNA (the presence of the Y-chromosome in the mother’s sample) in more than 99% of samples provided by women pregnant with a male fetus. (Note: all women in the study were 8 weeks or further along in their pregnancy.) Male fetal DNA was consistently not detected in samples from pregnant women carrying female fetuses. In a blind multi-center study performed in 2015 with samples collected at four clinics, SneakPeek showed an accuracy rate of 100% for fetal sex identification. The results of this study are available here. In at-home testing, a validation study presented at the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) Conference showed that SneakPeek Early Gender Test is highly accurate at determining baby gender as early as 9 weeks into pregnancy.

No, I can not be your primary care provider. Women’s health care is considered a specialty with a focus on care related to the unique health care needs of women. I enjoy working closely with your primary care provider and support care team when that is helpful.

Most insurances will cover one annual exam appointment per year without a referral. Referrals and pre-auths may be required with some insurances for follow up and problem visit services. Check with your insurance, or ask your PCP for a referral regardless just to make sure your insurance can be used.

We can either order labs that you have collected at your lab or choice, or we can collect most labs on site at the office. Hearts and Hands is currently in contract with Quest and LabCorp and can send orders to most hospital labs as needed. We can also co-manage lab collection if your PCP orders labs or if you want support with specific blood test company on a person to person basis.
